An attractive Shona dagger. Unusual large example carved from ivory, the hilt with a turned discoid pommel and a small silver insert, the sheath with ivory front and wooden back bound with woven twisted brass wire. The whole front decorated with inlaid black triangular designs. The front with a carved raised midsection for a sash or belt attachment. Well-forged steel blade with one side higher than the other in typical Shona style. A rare find and a high status piece. Dating to the early 20th century. 16.5 inches long overall.
