A very nice quality Qing Dynasty Chinese military Dao sword. Fine cast and chiselled brass mounts with dragons and scrolls, end chape, two brass hanging mounts and a horizontal hanging bar with strap loops, the locket shaped and pierced to match the chape. The whole scabbard covered with shagreen, some slight cracking here and there but all present. The sword with a fine steel blade very thick and robust, coming to a sharp point with a false back edge. The handle with a cord bound grip over mulberry paper underneath, the fabric unworn and surviving in perfect condition. A circular brass handguard with dragon and scroll decoration, the pommel matching. The entire piece in superb, original unrestored condition, a fine quality example of an antique Qing Dao.
