Rare polearm from Thailand, Dha blade and Ankus

A most interesting polearm from Thailand, incorporating a dha sword blade to the end, and a protruding iron side-hook 'Ancus', used for goading and steering the elephant. The dha blade is stout and curving, both sides stamped near the base with disc or sun markings.A lobed brass guard, and the forged iron ancus hook rest above a collar which has designs inlaid with black lac. Thai ancus or ankus are very scarce, a similar piece with shorter shaft is in the Royal Armouries collections in Leeds, UK.    southern asia
