Rare embroidered Dhal cover with small shield

A beautifully decorated hide cover for a small Dhal shield. Containing the shield inside with circular cutouts  for the four protruding bosses. The silk embroidery extremely fine and colourful, and surviving in remarkable condition in bright colours. The reverse showing the cover drawn tightly aroun the shield and the handle rings and fabric pad remaining inside. The age and fragility of the hide means the removing the shield is probably impossible without damage.Slight warping to the shield, 29 x 27 cms approx.  A similarly decorated gunbelt from Lahri, Sibi in Baluchistan ( now Pakistan) was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1997-98.
