Huge Turkish Ottoman Jambiya dagger with Gold Calligraphy

A very large Ottoman or Balkan Jambiya dagger dating to the 19th century. The huge steel blade curved with a central rib and featuring most exquisite panels of gold damascened decoration to the the forte, one side with arabic calligraphy, the other with scrolling motifs. The silver covered sheath tooled extensively with very fine decoration throughout, with a small silver loop to one side for attachmen of a cord or decorative tassel, the silver chape a replacement. Massive hilt of one piece carved from a solid section of walrus ivory of rich golden colour, some losses to the extremeties of the carving.   middle east
