An attractive Spear or lance from Asia, probable Thai. The wooden shaft is carved for its entire length with a continuous spiral pattern, there are traces of pigment under the varnish which suggests the whole shaft was originally painted or lacquered red. The collar appears to be made of copper or suassa alloy, the blade is double edged leaf shaped of steel. At the end of the lance is an iron shoe presumably for standing the lance upright in the ground. 19th century 242 cms long
