A fine Persian shamshir sword 18th century. The blade is heavy and deeply curved, the steel of high quality qootz damascus steel with visible striations or lines along its length, a pattern known as ‘ladder of the Prophet’ or Kirk Narduban. Laddered wootz blades were highly prized and are scarce collectors pieces. The hilt with grips of black horn, the steel mounts and handguard decorated with gold overlay in designs of flowers (age wear).
