An impressive early 19th century Persian Iranian Helmet ‘Khula Khud’. Deep steel bowl decorated allover with scenes of battle and figures at war, panels of Arabic in Kufic script highlighted with gold, the border around the bottom with additional panels of kufic and roundels containing portraits of figures. The top surmounted by a screw on spike, two plume holders to the front and a nasal protective bar which can be raised or lowered, held in place by a screw fitting. The helmet is complete with its protective camail skirt of butted steel and brass links arranged to form patterns. The helmet is good quality and of heavy weight. This helmet is accompanied by the matching armguard ‘Bazu band’ again decorated with battles scenes and Kufic script with gold adornment. Three buckles would have held an additional mail and plate cuff and handguard cover. Some age wear and patination allover, a most decorative authentic ensemble circa 1800.
