A nice 19th century Karo Battak knife ‘Rawit’ from Northern Sumatra. Having similarities with the Kalasan knife, this long knife (16.5 inches overall), has silver mounts with fine filigree silver wire edges, silver bands to the sheath, a silver cap to the pommel. The grip is formed from a carved piece of green/yellow horn with decoratively carved borders. The upper part of the dark wooden sheath is beautifully carved with intricate design. The steel blade is of wonderful quality, thick and sharp with the forte pierced and carved with fretwork. A slight dent to the egde of pommel cap, good condition throughout. southern asian
