A very nice quality Indian sword from the North, called a Firangi on account of the European or foreign blade fashionably used in it.The steel hilt of watered wootz steel, mounted with gold damascened chiselled fittings and mounts. The langets fitted with two small gems. The pommel with deeply chiselled decoration and pommel spike all highlighted with goldwork. The blade a very good european import with deep makers stamps to the forte, probably Genoese. Circa 1700. Age wear to hilt, small perforation to wootz guard plate in one area.
