A 19th century Steel shield Dhal from North India, damascened allover with silver and gold koftgari scrollwork, set with four domed steel protective bosses, and further embellished with a border frieze of silver leaves , and a coiled steel serpent around the centre. A thickened scalloped steel border and rolled steel reinforced edge is also present. The reverse side retaining its padded fabric backing and steel rings for handle attachment. The included photo shows princes of the Maharajah of Ajaigarh during the 19th century, one holding a very similar shield. Very good condition
