A rare early war helmet from Korea. This form of helmet has archaic form, lending its shape to later Turkic and Russian forms of helmet with eye cutouts. Originally with a padded guard fitted around the rim to protect the back and side of the head. Traces of black lacquer remain to the surfaces. We estimate this helmet to date to the 14th or 15th centuries, based on comparisons with surviving examples in Korean museums. Joseon Dynasty, Korea.
