A scarce and most interesting Chinese sword or ‘bar’ mace. The long heavy ‘blade’ of very thick brass fluted with four faces, each face is chafered concave for added strength , the tip with some turned finail decoration. The hilt is formed so that the blade projects from the mouth of a dragon finely shaped from brass, the pommel also of brass and with large lobed segments. The grip is of wood. This mace also retains its original leather sheath in wonderful condition, sewn to one side and with two short hanging loops ( one broken), when inserted the tip project through the end which is a nice feature. All in good solid condition, with a nice lustrous age patination throughout. 29 inches overall. This weapon dates to the Mid Qing period of the 19th century. far eastern
