Enamelled Silver Mounted Shield 'Dhal'

A good quality North Indian shield 'dhal'. Heavy and thick black lacquered hide of gently domed shape, with a rolled edge. Applied with four central bosses and a crescent of silver decorated with blue and green enamels. The side mounted with thick solid silver rings to hold a carrying strap. The reverse with four rings which would have held hand-grips, now missing. Good overall condition. Rajasthan/Jaipur, 18th/19th century. indo persia
