Abyssinian black leather shield 19th century

A very nice example of an antique Abyssinian/Eritrean shield made from possibly Hippo hide. Lovely old glossy patina, heavy leather shield with the front decorated with embossing and patterning to the hide surface, a rolled thick rim. The revers with a hide hand grip, and slings, the interior decorated with embossed red leather. Minor wear and markings.
