A very nice old Songye or Nsapo axe, of the sort carried by a Chief. Wonderful wrought iron blade with intricate chiselling and interweaving of strands, the centre adorned with a chiselled face. The shaft is wholly covered in beaten copper. The blade edge is sharp and fully finctional. Mid-late 19th Century.
