A fine Makana from the Amazon. Wonderful example in size and shape retaining cotton binding and with the remains of a stone axe blade embedded in one face, a feature sometimes encountered in these weapons. Similar clubs/weapons can be seen in murals of the Maya and Aztec, and it is possible that some makanas have a very early date. Brazil/Guiana. 19th century or earlier.
