Stunning Ivory Hilted Indian Khanjarli Dagger from Orissa
A beautiful Indian dagger called a Khanjarli, with ivory grips having a lunette shaped pommel. Both sides of the hilt mounted with silver star rivets, the iron hilt mouts thickly covered with silver. The steel handguard with decorative chiselling and a drooping flower bud terminal again with silver covering. The recurved steel blade with silvered upper mount, fine chiselled lines and a thickened tip. The blade has an attractive dark patinated surface which has not been cleaned, it is almost certain that the blade of a piece of this style and quality is of wootz damascus steel. Some minor chips to ivory and blade tip slightly bent. 18th century Indo Persian
