An interesting sacrificial or ceremonial chopper from Bali. Of heavy weight the blade is extremely robust and of thick steel sharpened to a 'chisel' chamfer. The upper face with elaborate geometric and symbolic inlay, the reverse very finely chiselled with the figure of a demon. The back edge of the blade is deeply inlaid with bands of brass. Shaft of dense glossy exotic wood, the top and bottom with brass mounts with decorative chiselling and shaping. The wood shaft once had two long inlaid strips perhaps of brass or another material. Very good condition, Bali 19th century. . $reserved |
