An early Tiraz comprising several fragments of cloth from Islamic North Africa Mamluk or Ayyubid Dynasty. Woven in blue on a natural ground with vertical bands of two stripes, with a central line of silk embroidered inscription translated as 'To its owner, to its owner...' and ' Glory and Prosperity and Happiness and....'. 39.5 x 5.5 cms, framed in its 19th century mount with various export stickers including one from Paris. A similar piece is in the Bouvier Collection, Paris. 13th/14th century. This piece has been dated and verified by experts at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the David Foundation Copenhagen, and an independent Tiraz specialist in Qatar. $price on request
