A beautiful old Tibetan Quiver. Leather, wood and iron construction finely painted overall with leopard spot design, the centre well painted with a crouching Leopard, the reverse with a Lion. In the Chinese miltary rank system the Leopard was the symbol for officials of the third Rank, the Lion being the second, and the Unicorn the first, the decoration here may or may not have relevance to this. A very rare survival due to the fragility of the materials. Good condition, some mounts missing. Tibet/Mongolia, 18th Century or earlier. $sold |
