A rare early Turkish or Polish mace. This weapon was both for combat and also a symbol of rank. The heavy onion-shaped iron head is tightly packed with flanges, there is a section of iron shaft remaining below, which originally would have been a little longer. The hardwood shaft has much age and may be the original, a small hole near the grip would have taken a strap. The head with 17 flanges and space for one missing one. 19 x 3 inches approximately.
