An attractive group of spears from Philippines: 1 The largest being a heavy Moro spear from Mindanao, the shaft is of thick cane, a long brass collar, very heavy and large steel blade. 89 inches. 2 A Mandaya or Moro spear from Eastern Mindanao, very strong steel head with central ridge, the collar of brass with the lowest cast or chiselled with scrolling flowers. Stout cane shaft. 85 inches. 3 A Bagabo spear from the Southern Philippines, stout triangular spearhead with ridge down the centre, finely shaped upper brass mount, beneath which is bound brass plain and decorated at intervals. The shaft is of wood with a small brass finial to the end. 86 inches. 4 Igorot spear from Luzon with multiple barbs to the head. Slender wooden shaft with iron upper mount, probably used as a throwing spear as it is light and well balanced. North Philippines. 77 inches.
All offered in good condition, the blades retaining a dark uncleaned patina, the steel is good and almost certainly of good quality lamellar comstruction. All pieces dating to the 19th century.
