Two interesting old spears or lances. One Persian 'Sinan' having an extremely large blade. This is of very strong thickened construction with a deep central fuller, and reinforced edges, it is made of extremely fine damascus wootz, the quality of which is not possible to capture on the image below due to the dark and glossy metal patination. The lower blade mount and socket of steel with silver damascened patterns. Retaining its original wooden shaft, possibly this originally had a butt-cap. The other a scarce Singhalese spear 'Patisthanaya'. The robust steel head with curled side arms in European style, the shaft retaining much original brightly coloured lacquer-work, retaining its original steel butt-cap. Both pieces approximately 105 inches long each. Dating to the 18th or early 19th century.
