A very fine Indo-Persian compound bow. The recurved compound or composite bow was one of the most characteristic weapons of the near and middle-eastern warrior, and maintained a very similar construction and usage across a huge distance in time and area, from the Parthians to the Chinese of the Ching Empire. The bow of the Indo-Persian mounted warrior was highly developed in being fairly small and lightweight yet incredibly powerful when fired. Because of the huge forces created in the construction of sinews, horns and woods, the bows generally survive in worn condition, or with much of the surface decoration lost. This example originates from the north of the Subcontinent, and dates to the 18th or early 19th century. The length is approximately 44 inches.
