A wonderful pair of flintlock pistols from the Balkans. Fine quality pieces both dated with silver inlay on the stock to 1190 AH (1796 AD). The stock finely and deeply carved allover with inlaid and thick chiselled silver mounts, the butts with scrolling silverwork and filigree decoration. The inlay on the underside of the handle very unusually depicts a shamshir 'zulfiqar' with split blade. The firing mechanisms beautifully chiselled with scrollwork and embellished with gold highlights. Fine steel barrels with stunning silver inlaid motifs, to the forte and tip. Both in excellent condition with the flintlock mechanisms tight and fully finctional. Montenegro/Ottoman Balkans, 18th century.
