A nice Sudanese sword 'Kaskara'. The hilt very well made with leather disc pommel, polished leather binding to the grip, and a beautifully sculpted steel crosspiece. The steel blade double edged and with deeply chiselled rondel marks to the forte on each side, one face of the blade etched with arabic calligraphy probably a Koranic invocation, and other motifs. A good heavy early example. 38 inches approximately. Dating to the 19th century, Sudan. $695 |
