A fine Battak sword from North Sumatra. The hilt strongly modelled as a seated figure with original hair tuft. The curving steel blade with single edge and small decorative chiselled feature at the forte. The scabbard of dark wood with mounts and bands of brass, the top locket with a 'singa' head feature. Good condition. This piece has provenance from the DaSilva collection in the Netherlands. 32 inches approximately. Karo Battak, 19th century.
