An attractive and large sword from Northern India. Large silver mounts to the scabbard with pierced, chiselled and engraved decoration, the chape finishing with a ribbed ball terminal. The centre scabbard section covered with green silk fabric (worn), the spine attractively bound with silver ribbon and wire. The sword with a heavy 'Khyber' style blade of good steel, the back having a 'T' section for strength. The bolsters attractively chiselled with petal lobes, the long hilt having two slabs of ebony type wood as grips. All parts original and in good condition, the repeated motif of the facetted lug on the locket of the sheath and pommel of the hilt show that the sword and sheath are contemporary. 28 inches overall. Dating to the early 19th century.
