A rare early form of katar from South India. The long blade adapted for use from a European rapier or broadsword. The steel hilt with numerous bars and guards, the top surmounted by a monster or yali head. Dark patination allover, the long shaped blade mounts with engraved decoration. Dating to the 16th or early 17th century. This piece comes with a later scabbrd covered with red velvet. 36 inches long overall.
