A good quality Chinese sword Dao. Beautiful mounts of chiselled pierced brass possibly gilt, decorated with dragons and other auspicious symbols. The hilt with grip intricately bound with blue silk, rounded pierced pommel, circular guard with rounded rim. The scabbard covered with white shagreen, complete with all of its mounts locket, chape, two hanging bands, and a further strap mount rivetted with iron pins. The scabbard is complete with its original blue silk hanging strap and tassels, the hilt with its original blue silk lanyard strap. The blade is of high quality thick steel, very heavy and well balanced clearly a fighting piece, sharpened at the tip to the back edge. Excellent complete condition throughout, the blade with some wear and pitting to the tip, tight to the scabbard, wear to one point of the strap where it has rubbed on the metalwork. 19th century
