A good Indian scimitar 'Tulwar'. The long blade of excellent quality flexible 'damascus' wootz steel, the watered pattern extremely fine and difficult to photograph. Retaining a very sharp single edge but with the front back edge also sharpened. Shaped with a fuller to the back edge and a wide concave channel to each blade face for rigidity. The hilt of steel overlaid with thick silver in floral designs, the large disc pommel strikingly applied with silver in a 'starburst' design. Good overall condition, some age wear. An extremely light and well-balanced fighting piece, designed for only one thing. Dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. 38 inches overall, the blade 33 inches. Northern India. $1395 |
