Nepalese Kukri KnifeA beautiful high quality Kukri knife from Nepal. The scabbard decorated most attractively with quillwork, using flattened quills from the porcupine. The reverse with a back pouch containing its original two side knives and enclosed within a removal folded pouch for holding tinder. The knife with a robust high quality steel blade showing some pattern welded lamination patterns, finely shaped 'cho' notch and a deeply struck marking above. The bolsters of steel, solid hardwood carved shaped hilt. Quillwork of this type rarely survives, less so in such fine condition, a similarly decorated kukri in the Pitt-Rivers Museum, Oxford is dated to 1821, an early 19th century date for this kukri also seems reasonable to assume. Excellent condition, minor chipping to pommel area.
