Two qood quality antique Indian punch - daggers 'katar'. Both chiselled to their blades with scenes of fighting and animals, the upper example circa 1700 with a broad blade with thickened tip, chiselled with fighting elephants and mahouts, a lion or tiger and a mounted warrior. The crossbar beneath the blade unusually chiselled with a seated lion or tiger. Steel handguards and twin grip bars chiselled with elephants heads to the terminals (heavily age-worn). The lower example circa 1800 with alonger more pointed blade deeply chiselled with tiger-hunting scenes heavily overlaid with gold, the twin arm guards and grip bars heavily damascened with gold ( age wear and some loss). Both blades are of fine watered jauhar (wootz) steel. 15 and 19 inches long approximately.
