Two interesting Chinese swords 'dao'. The upper sword with heavy single edged steel blade showing a faint watered or laminated pattern along its length. The mounts of bronze or brass with some fine chiselled decoration, the chape retaining gold lacquer, the two hanging mounts applied with a green stone or glass. The hilt grip and scabbard covered with black lacquer. The lower shortsword of similar form with brass/bronze mounts, the grip of two sections of horn, The blade showing some lamellar watered pattern, and inlaid to one side with a design in brass (worn). Both dating to the 19th century.
