A Malayan sword usually known as a Parang Nabur'. This appears to be a very early example, the hilt carved from one solid piece of Rhino horn, presumably Indonesian which typically appears darker than African. The knuckleguard and crosspiece of thick steel. The robust blade of high quality and with a very unusual profile resembling the Turkish sword 'Kilij'. Broadening tip with a sharpened back edge and with signs of a lamellar steel patterning visible on the tip. 28 inches long approx. Dating to the early 19th century.
