An early dagger from the Deccan. Solid brass hilt strongly modelled as a Yali monster, the curving neck forming the grip. The surface worked to represent scales, the lower section of hilt forming the mount for the recurved steel blade. A heavy well-balanced piece with great sculptural form. 14 inches overall. 16th-18th century, South India.
