Two attractive Chinese swords 'Jian'. Straight double-edged blades of good steel with signs of some lamellar watering. The mounts of brass, finely decorated in relief with designs including bats representing auspicious good fortune. One sword with the scabbard covered with green shagreen the other retaining some of its original tortoiseshell. The grips of fluted swollen wood with a hole to take a handstrap (lanyard). Good unrestored condition, the scabbard coverings worn and with losses, the grips both have splits to the reverse. longest 24 inches overall. Dating to the second half of the 19th century.
