A good 19th century Arab dagger 'Jambiya' from Southern Arabia or the Yemen. Large and good quality piece, the large steel blade very well made with a thickened centre, strong and rigid, the upper forte ridge chiselled to both sides with decoration. The hilt of a darkwood mounted with chiselled decorated silver, the large bosses made of silver coins with some arabic calligrpahy still visible around their edges. The sheath mounted with silver to the upper and lower parts, the chape of fine silver filigree. The large decorated leather belt complete and attached to the Jamiya with twisted silver wire, the back is padded/lined with thick felt. 23.5 inches overall, very good complete condition.
