and good quality old Singhalese knife ' Piha Kaetta'. The hilt beautifully
carved from black coral or tortoiseshell decorated with finely detailed
silver mounts. The lower grip and upper section of the blade fitted with
an elaborate silver mount, the steel blade overlaid with panels of very
fine silver repousse work, and inlaid in silver around the borders. Retaining
its original wooden sheath and top mount of silver decorated with applied
silver filigree and wirework. An excellent example of this type of knife
of very high workmanship. 9.5 inches overall. Ceylon, 18th or 19th century.
