Yatagan/ Yataghan SwordA beautiful and unusual antique Yatagan/ yataghan sword from Ottoman Bosnia. The walrus ivory hilt expertly inlaid with brass and other decorative features, the gripstraps beautifully adorned with silver damascened scrollwork. The steel bolsters similarly silver damascened. The blade in stunning condition, clean and bright steel stamped deeply at the forte with a makers mark in arabic characters, both sides of the blade with panels of applied gold damascene, one containing arabic calligraphy. Complete with its scabbard the midriff covered with sewn black leather, the chape and upper mount of chiselled silver metal, the locket having a small applied hanging fitting. Small cut to the back of the chape where the blade point has gone through in the past. An unusual example. Early 19th century.
