An old unusual Indian war shield 'Dhal'. Thick circular convex shield made of heavy hide, covered in thick black protective lac. Four central steel bosses with piercing and applied with floral decoration in silver koftgari. Mounted with five panels of chiselled repousse brass depicting mythological scenes. The reverse retaining a deep padded handpad, and retaining its two handstrapsin good condition. Approximately 21 inches diameter. Excellent condition, dating to the 19th century. $1100
