An attractive Indian hide shield ' Dhal'. Made of thick semi-translucent hide possibly Rhino. The surface painted with coloured designs, the four bronze bosses shaped as lotus buds, with red textile pads beneath. The reverse with four iron rings for attching the gripstraps. The translucency is still apparant despite the ageing of the shield surface. Dating to the 19th century. 15 inches diameter. $895 |
