An early cane shield from Tibet. Very deep rounded shape of thick cane bound with thinner cane, the surface pigmented in red and black designs. The outer rim bound with thick hide, the centre boss of iron and bronze with some chiselled characters. The reverse with two leather grip-straps. Good condition. 18th century or earlier.
